Police Youth Ambassador

The year 1-3 cadets from Raffles Institution carried out this Police Youth Ambassador Project on 29th July 2019 in partnership with the Bishan Neighbourhood Police Centre. It was convenient for us to carry the project out on this day since our school was celebrating our Founders Day on that day and thus it was a school holiday. We also decided to carry out the project at HDB blocks 101-110 which is right next to our school.

Our Police Youth Ambassador Project was giving out flyers door to door to Bishan residents to promote awareness of phone scams. People fall prey to scams because they are unaware of how to identify scams. As such, we were happy to do our part and help raise awareness of phone scams, a prevalent type of scam, so that people will not be victimized by scammers.

We designed the poster, as shown below, ourselves. The poster includes the following information about scams:

1: Cases of people losing a lot of money from phone scams

2: Common tactics used to deceive people

3: To ignore such phone calls and contact the police instead, making sure not to give personal information

4: The anti-scam hotline, 1800-727-6688, and scamalert.sg

Station Inspector Saravanan Manogaran from the Bishan Neighbourhood Police Centre was our partner for this project. We were briefed by our Teacher-Officer, Mr Kang, and Station Inspector Saravanan before we went off. We received some valuable tips on how to interact with the residents without coming off as offensive and how to keep ourselves safe from residents who may harbour malicious intents. The cadets were split into five groups and each group covered two HDB blocks. As such, we were able to complete the visits quite quickly. Overall, the project went as planned and was a success.
